Mountain bike events have always been a big part of mountain biking in the Gunnison Valley. South and north, mountain biking events dot the calendar throughout the year.
Gunnison Mountain Bike Events
Gunnison kicks off the season summer events season with some pretty hardcore races held at Hartman Rocks. Memorial Day Weekend (May 23-24, 2020) offers the Original Growler (and half Growler). This beast of a race covers nearly all the singletrack trails at Hartman Rocks. With full and half growler options (64 and 32 miles of dirt track riding, respectively), this is a serious race for hard core mountain bikers. Sign up soon or you may have to wait until 2019 to do the Growler.
CB Devo will also host the Kid’s Growler on May 23, 2020 with races for kids of all ages from Strider riders to 9+. Registration is at the picnic table at Hartman Rocks Base Area on the morning of the 23rd.
Crested Butte/Mt. Crested Butte Mountain Bike Events
Chainless World Championships
Crested Butte’s longest running bike event is the wacky and wild Chainless World Championships. Shuttle up to the top of Kebler Pass via the bus and take a 7 mile plunge back to town, no pedaling allowed. On a good year there’s still enough snow for a summer snowball fight before the race starts.
Junior Bike Week
In 2020, CB Devo will host the fifth annual Junior Bike Week Festival. The event will include all kinds of fun stuff for groms including a track stand competition and a crosscountry race on the awesome Lower Loop system.
Bridges of the Butte
The Adaptive Sports Center also runs it’s biggest fundraiser in June, the 24 Hour Bridges of the Butte Townie Tour on June 27 and 28. Sign up solo or as a team, but don’t forget your costume.
Outerbike Crested Butte
Outerbike is the best bike demo event in the universe and we are so excited to officially announce that we will host Outerbike Summer in Mt. Crested Butte August 14-16, 2020. Get the full skinny over at the Outerbike event page.
The Pearl Pass Tour
Join in on the Annual Pearl Pass Tour September 12-13, 2020. Since 1976, Crested Butte riders have made the precarious trip over Pearl Pass to Aspen every September (except one). Initially proposed as a joke, the Crested Butte riders figured why not and headed across the pass. The next year all the Marin County riders showed up for the annual Pearl Pass tour and a tradition was born.
Fat Bike World Championships
Whether you’re here for the races or the spectacle, you do not want to miss the next Fat Bike World Championships.
We know you don’t just come here for the biking. The Gunnison Valley is home to countless music performances, a renowned juried art show, and Colorado’s oldest rodeo. Use our full events calendar to plan your bike trip to line up with some of our other events. All Gunnison Valley Events
