One of the Crested Butte Classics, Cement Creek riders will often run into foreign tour groups looking for the entrance to Reno.

Most people park at either the Caves parking or park at the Deadman’s trail, both are located up Cement Creek Road.

There are no terrible technical challenges on this ride but there is 3,000’ of vertical. Water, snacks or some fuel are recommended.

From the Deadman’s trailhead, continue pedaling up Cement Creek Road. After crossing the river, several switchbacks and a quick descent, the entrance to Reno will be on your right. This is the grunt of the ride and is about five miles of climbing to the top of the divide. The divide itself offers a nice place to stop, snack, and snap some photos.

Catch the Flag singletrack here and enjoy three miles of beautiful and smooth downhill. It’s one of the best downhills in the valley.

When you enter dark timber look to your right for Bear Creek. The trail will climb, then hit a road. You’ll go left on the road, but keep your eyes out for the second part of the Bear single track which will be on your right. You don’t want to miss another three-plus miles of some of the most fun descending in the Gunnison Valley.

After a fast paced descent, with both your legs and cheeks hurting, you’ll hit a T-crossing. Take a right here for your next and final climb of the ride up Deadman’s. The climb is moderately pitched with a nice kicker right at the end. Just in case your weren’t feeling tired,  the ride ends with 30 steep switchbacks down to the Deadman’s parking lot and Cement Creek Rd.
